God created the cow first. The cow was told that he would have to work hard in the sun and provide milk and beef for man. God told the cow that he would live 50 years. “50 years!!” said the cow, “That is too long to ask me to work out in the hot sun day after day, I’ll take 20 years and give you back 30 years.” God said “OK, you will have 20 years.”
God created the monkey next. The monkey was told that he would have to be funny and do tricks and make people laugh for 20 years. “20 years!! That is too long” said the monkey. “I can’t make people laugh for 20 years! I’ll take 10 years and give you back 10 years” God said “OK, you will have 10 years.”
Next, God created the dog. The dog was told that he would have to sit by the door and bark at everyone that goes by. God said to the dog that he would have 20 years. The dog said, “20 years!! That is too long, God. I will get tired of barking that long. I will keep 10 years and give you back 10 years like the monkey did.” God said “OK, you will have 10 years.”
Then, God created man. God told man that he could eat, sleep, and marry and he would have 20 years. “20 years!! That is not long enough, God. Give me the 30 years the cow didn’t want, and the 10 years the monkey didn’t want, and the 10 years the dog didn’t want. That would be a total of 70 years.” God said “OK, I will give man 70 years.
So, that is why the first 20 years of our lives, we eat, sleep and marry. The next 30 years, we have to work out in the hot sun to provide for our families. The next 10 years, we do monkey tricks trying to make our grandkids laugh. The next 10 years, we just sat by the door and bark at everyone that goes by!!
